Ensuring dignified end-of-life
choices for DC residents.

Our Mission
About
End Of Life Options DC
End Of Life Options DC is a non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the purposes of the D.C. Death with Dignity Law.
Our mission is to provide education, resources, and support for patients, families, volunteers, and health care providers who seek to ensure that patients facing end-of-life decisions can exercise their options under the DC law.
Navigating the complexities of end-of-life care is one of the most profound challenges a person can face. We are here to offer compassionate support and expert guidance to residents of Washington, D.C., who wish to understand and access their right to Medical Aid in Dying. Our team is made up of doctors, social workers, hospice staff, and end-of-life doulas who have dedicated their lives to this work. We are also family members and friends who have personally walked this journey alongside loved ones, giving us a deep, firsthand understanding of the empathy and care required.

What Is MAID
A Compassionate Choice in Washington, D.C.
In the District of Columbia, eligible residents have the legal right to access Medical Aid in Dying, a compassionate option for end-of-life care. This practice allows a terminally ill adult, who is mentally competent and has a prognosis of six months or less to live, to request a prescription from their physician for medication they can choose to self-ingest. This gives them the power to end their life peacefully, on their own terms, and at a time of their choosing. This right became legal in D.C. in 2017 under the Death with Dignity Law.
